Ken-A-Vision Donates 100 ($30,000 Value) of the New kena™ Digital Microscopes, Winner of a Bronze 2009 International Design Excellence Award (IDEA), to Science Teachers Across the U.S.
Kansas City – December 14, 2009 – Ken-A-Vision, a leading manufacturer of digital presentation solutions, document cameras, microscopes and applications software to the educational market, today announced the donation of 100 of the new kena Digital Microscopes to science teachers across the U.S.
The initiative, valued at over $30,000, supports the primary goal of the “Enhancing Education through Technology (Ed Tech) Program” under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) which is to improve student academic achievement through the use of technology in schools. The Ed Tech ARRA is also designed to ensure that every student is technologically literate by the end of eighth grade and to encourage the effective integration of technology with teacher training and curriculum development to establish successful research-based instructional methods.
The kena give-away program was first announced October 21 on the NSTA Web site’s Elementary School E-mail List Server. Within hours, 450 responses representing 44 states and schools ranging from Elementary Schools, University Elementary Education Departments to American International Schools in London and Montenegro were received. Delivery of the product has been completed.
“Our goal is to deliver affordable, innovative solutions that bring digital microscopy into the classroom,” said Steve Dunn, Ken-A-Vision’s President. “In these challenging economic times, we wanted to give back to educators and provide them the tools to excite students and promote science and technology. In August, we were thrilled and honored to receive a prestigious award for the kena, the 2009 International Design Excellence Bronze Award (IDEA).”
